Harland & Wolff 21st Century IP Surveillance project wins top IT award

The Techworld Awards have firmly established themselves as the networking and infrastructure awards event. Recognising both products and users, the Techworld Awards reward innovation on all sides of the IT industry. Each year, the Techworld Awards honor the products and users from the European IT industry that have made a significant difference.

Robert McIlwaine, Harland and Wolff Group IT Executive, said, “With a site as large as ours and the fact that the ground level is made up of around 10-12 feet of reinforced concrete, upgrading our surveillance system presented a real challenge. However, in employing the DVTel technology, Telindus rose to this challenge, using wireless connectivity to link our existing and new cameras in areas that were difficult to access. The DVTel solution connects 39 cameras across the two dry docks and the ship repair site, as well as the main yard and internal and perimeter floodlighting towers, using Ethernet, fibre and wireless connections.

DVTel Latitude NVMS Enables Advanced Gunshot Detection Integration

Posted on: Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Unfortunately, Los Angeles has a habit of deadly New Year’s celebrations: firing off guns in the air to mark the occasion.
Recently, LA County Sheriff Baca, backed by Police Chief Bratton, held a news conference to discourage this deadly practice by demonstrating a new, highly-promising technology.

DVTel’s Latitude Network Video management system is integrated with a Sentri Gunshot Detection alarm system that upon alarm automatically directs surveillance cameras to the area of gunshots. Police personnel can then investigate in real time—both using video and by deploying to the scene—in an effort to cut down on this life-threatening celebration and to reduce gun violence at all times of year.

A CBS news report on this new technology and the LA system can be viewed here: CBS News report
